How We Work

Consultancy

Many of our clients see us as a vital partner in the creative process, whether it be for conservation, restoration or new build.

We advise on the selection of appropriate period joinery detail for projects based on a number of factors, including:

  • the period and style of the property
  • its relative status
  • the architect, where known
  • the hierarchical differentiation within a property

When putting forward our schemes we not only consider the aesthetics but also the practicalities of the door or moulding designs.

Design

A key element of Atkey’s service is our design expertise and we regularly work in collaboration with English Heritage and other prestigious bodies.

With our understanding of architectural detail, the shifting influences affecting the evolution of classical designs and our appreciation of the best of modern design, we enable designers, architects and homeowners to specify appropriate, elegant and well-proportioned architectural joinery.

Each item within the Atkey archive can be traced to an original example, and our catalogue provides us with a reference point that enables a sound basis for design, encouraging a closer adherence to the authentic period joinery created by the masters from the past. We issue detailed drawings of our joinery designs in advance of manufacture.
