In Edwardian and early 20th century door design, we see simplification in detailing. In part, Edwardian doors are a reaction against heavily embellished Victorian doors. In the Edwardian period door mouldings and detailing is pared right down.
Traditional door panel configurations continue and are for the first time supplemented with full width vertical panels. This innovation enables odd numbers in door panelling. Three, four and five panel doors are seen. Art Deco and Art Novo influences are emerging and stepped detailing in door panel mouldings emerges in Edwardian door design.
